Biography
Bradley Madsen is an in-demand low-brass freelance performer. Performing on Trombone, Valve Trombone, Bass Trombone, Euphonium, Tuba, and Bass Trumpet, Brad has had the opportunity to perform as a sideman with many groups, ranging from jazz to classical, hip hop to rock/funk.
In addition to his sideman work, Brad is also a leader, running his own small group jazz ensemble playing reinventions of pop/rock tunes and his own originals. Brad's cultivation of his unique voice, influenced by his childhood of listening to rock and pop, has earned him the praise of Ku-Umba Frank Lacy, who has called Brad "the first rock trombone player," as well as the praise of Marty Fagin, co-owner of the now closed Puppets Jazz Bar, saying "Bradley Madsen is one of the best trombone players around! His versatility and smooth sound are currently unmatched in the jazz world."
As a classical soloist, Brad has performed recitals at Brooklyn College, and commissions new works for trombone. He has also performed for Mayor Bloomberg as part of a brass ensemble invited to perform his 2010 inauguration ceremony.
Brad is also an in demand arranger, writing big band charts, brass ensemble works, horn arrangements.... Notable commissions include works for the Brooklyn College Brass Ensemble, and big band charts for Chris Zalewski and the Alcatraz Fugitives.
Brad is a skilled and versatile teacher. He is available for private lessons, small group lesson, and ensemble workshops. 5 years of teaching in a school setting have given him the skills to lead any large ensemble with ease.
