Biography

Brad Playing Trombone

A graduate of the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music Program, Bradley Madsen has proven himself a skilled and versatile trombonist. He can be found playing pop/rock/funk covers one day, jazz another, and classical solos the next.

Brad has studied with some of the top names in jazz, including (but not limited to) Bobby Sanabria, Richard Boukas Benny Powell, Art Baron, Armen Donelian, Andy Mckee, Jimmy Owens, Luis Bonilla, Jim Ten Bensel, Bruce Bonvisutto, and Ku-Umba Frank Lacy. He plays any and all styles of music, ranging from straight ahead jazz to funk, Brazilian to Afro-Cuban, free jazz to chamber music, classical concerti to pop. Graduating with honors in 2005, Brad has since performed with Dem Brooklyn Bums, Foxy Moon Baby, Charli Persip, Abe Silverman and his Big Band (and is a soloist on his album), Bobbi Sanabria and the NSU Afro-Cuban Big Band, Tom Abbott’s Big Bang Big Band, Soul Be It, Blue Nitrous, The Sharp Things, The Funky Fritters, and Jason Yudoff and the New Hotness.
Not content to be only a sideman, Bradley has formed his own group, The Bradley Madsen Group, playing arrangements of current pop tunes as jazz standards (in the same tradition as the great jazz musicians of their times, such as John Coltrane, JJ Johnson, and Miles Davis). Brad’s cultivation of this unique voice, influenced by his childhood of listening to rock and pop, has earned him the praise of Ku-Umba Frank Lacy, who has called Bradley "the first rock trombone player."

Bradley is a skilled teacher, both of large ensembles and in private lessons. He can help you reach any goal you desir. If you are interested in studying, please contact him at lessons@bradleymadsen.com, or 917-648-1486.
